National licences
Via the Alexandria search portal, all residents of Switzerland can freely access over six million academic articles in the periodicals archives of publishers De Gruyter, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press and Springer.
The Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries gives users access to the periodicals archives of renowned academic publishers De Gruyter, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press and Springer using the system of national licences.
This means that anyone resident in Switzerland can access the content of these four databases free of charge. The full contents can be accessed at the BiG via the Alexandria search portal. Here articles are referenced and appear in the results of a search.
Contents
The publishers listed above cover a wide range of academic disciplines. However, each periodical archive is subject to an embargo of between two and five years. This means that the most recent articles cannot be accessed; they only become available after the end of the embargo. More information can be found on the website of the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries.
Access
National licences are available to all Federal Administration employees and Armed Forces staff via the Alexandria search portal. Registration is not required; provided you use your work laptop (outside the Federal Administration network via VPN); you will be identified automatically. Members of the general public can register via the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries website.
