Since Alexander the Great, several superpowers have tried to conquer Afghanistan and exercise political influence over the country, whose rich culture and fascinating landscapes have always attracted scholars, traders, adventurers and explorers from all over the world. This has led to encounters that are illustrated by the items selected for display at the exhibition.

Opening addresses will be delivered by Prof. Alexis Schwarzenbach, the Swiss historian, curator and author, Mr Paul Bucherer, head of the Afghanistan Institute, and Mr Josef Häfliger, former Mayor of Guttannen, who, with his wife, has travelled around Afghanistan every year for the past two decades.
The opening addresses are followed by aperitifs.

Please confirm your attendance via e-mail to bibliothek@gs-vbs.admin.ch. The number of seats is limited. Registrations will be considered in the order in which they have been received. If you do not hear from us, you may consider your registration confirmed.
