The BiG is an institution of the General Secretariat of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS).

The Library Am Guisanplatz BiG is an institution of the General Secretariat of the Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (GS-VBS). The BiG is the lead library of the Federal Administration and the Swiss Armed Forces. It is a public-law institution of the Swiss Confederation.
