The Middle and Near East collection

From Afghanistan to Cyprus, from the Taliban to the Muslim Sisters, from Cleopatra to Atatürk; with its Middle and Near East collection, the BiG seeks to do justice to the incredible variety of the Orient, while, in accordance with our tradition, the emphasis is on politics, history and security policy.

Right from the beginning, the new milennium brought radical changes in the Middle and Near East. The interventions of the West in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as the political upheavals in the course of the Arab Spring suddenly brought the mostly Moslem countries to the attention of the world. The consequences of internal and external influences has led to far-reaching and to this day, unpredictable political, economical and ideological changes. The Middle and Near East collection documents both current security and geo-political events within the world of Islam and their historical backgrounds.
