Military post card collection

How were the first and second world wars perceived in Switzerland? What did life in the armed forces look like? What did military service personnel write home? The military postcard collection of the BiG is nationally one of the most significant collections of this kind and offers insights into the contemporary perception of military, national defence and war.

The postcard collection consists of almost 2,200 postcards from military personnel, of which most were sent by military mail to their relatives during the two world wars.

In addition, however, it is also possible to derive from these sources the various branches of armament and to follow their development into the Cold War. This collection is fully digitised and well registered. It is possible to search for persons, branches of service, period designations etc.
