Albert von Escher collection

In the Albert von Escher collection you will find watercolours of cantonal and federal military uniforms from the 17th to the 19th century.

The project to digitise some 900 watercolours was carried out together with the Electronic Media Centre (EMC).
The collection of pictures – including metadata – can be downloaded by the public via BiG homepage from the media library of the DDPS, the EMC’s media database.

Albert von Escher (20 May 1833 - 16 May 1905) was captain in the Swiss Army and became famous for his watercolours of military subjects. The original paintings of federal and cantonal uniforms were acquired by the Federal Council for the General Staff library and since forms one of the special collections of the former Federal Military Library and present Library Am Guisanplatz.
